I published a Go application today to export the last tweets from your twitter timeline to your local hugo repository by using the Twitter API. You can find a copy of my tweets here, mostly written in German.

Today I learned that Twitter still uses the original retweet style format “RT @” in the background for native retweets too.

So I muted “RT @” for everyone in my Home timeline and it looks like that it works.

Twitter is the only social network I use one a daily basis. I switched to Tweetbot years ago as my primary Twitter client because one of the features I miss in the official client are the possibility to mute tweets by regular expressions or by specified clients.

Tweetbot is an award-winning Twitter client for iOS and the Mac. Create lists and use them as curated timelines. Create and share powerful mute filters using keywords or regular expressions. Use timeline filters to quickly reveal tweets you want to see and hide the ones you don’t. Tweetbot lets you take over your timeline and view it your way.

Muted tweets by regular expressions

Here are some examples of regular expressions that I mute with Tweetbot. By default, mentions, searches and lists are not affected by regular expression. But it’s possible to enable it for every regular expression.

I’m not interested in public mentions or conversations

I didn’t want to see conversations between other people only because I follow both of them. This regular expressions mute mentions for you also! That means you only see this in your mentions pane. Mute all tweets beginning with: @foo, .@foo, . @foo or . @foo.

Mostly, tweets with more than two #Hashtags are uninteresting

Mute all tweets with more than two hashtags like foo bar [...] #first #second #third

Tweets with long #hashtags are not really exciting

Mute all tweets with a hashtag that contains more than 15 characters like foo bar [...] #veryLongHashtag

#[^ ]{15}

Mute all tweets with more than 2 uppercase words like YOU'RE SO WRONG

Mute tweets by clients

The clients below are used for advertising, cross posting or automated tweets. Mute a client affects your timeline, mentions, searches and lists.

There are some useful other pages with examples for regular expressions

Try your own regular expressions
